Embracing innovation to streamline asset management – Lingewaard’s story

Keeping roadside asset data current is a time-consuming, and expensive, job.  Bjorn van de Velde, the Civil Engineering Manager at the municipality of Lingewaard noticed that the information concerning the location and state of the municipality’s public lighting, signage, and street furniture had become outdated over time. So he turned to AI-InfraSolutions data to provide an update – data that he can use from his office, without needing to do site visits.

AI-InfraSolutions provides comprehensive data for the whole of the Netherlands, which the company maps annually to make sure the database is as current as  possible. From this solid data core, a range of useful information sets can be extracted, leading to valuable insights. And all without having to leave the desk!

“The data I received back showed that 55% of my lighting columns had been updated and could be controlled remotely, while the rest had been checked manually,“ says Bjorn. “So now I can say that we have a 95% data package.“

For example, when a lightpost has been knocked down, Bjorn can tell his lighting contractor exactly what locaiton it is in, and what type of asset to order, simplifying the replacement process dramatically.

Bjorn embraces innovation in his quest to manage Lingewaard‘s massive asset inventory. “ Invest your time wisely and don’t keep doing things the old way when they’ve been done that way for years“, he advises.
